I’m still catching my breath from this year’s summer conference – I hope it’s not becoming a cliché when I say (once again!) that this year was an especially good one! We were blessed with an exceptional group of young people, mostly from the Hurmuzache high school in Radauti, who all knew each other beforehand. This meant that they took no time at all to settle in, and were fully engaged and confident in all the discussions from the word “go”. It also meant they all spoke good English (which made things easier for us!). There were many new faces, but also many old ones, with a regular core now developing. From my point of view, the real change this year was the way many of them have grown from being mere participants, to becoming my friends. This has always been the case with Misu’s girls for example, but now there are many I’m on chatty terms with. The reason “I’m still catching my breath” this year is because of the torrent of online banter that’s followed on from the conference, and also from being introduced to many of their friends this way. Long may it continue! I felt very happy this year that we were able to bring some relevant and provocative material to these young people, material which I pray will help them chart a “faith course” through this exciting and bewildering world. In fact, the young people themselves started using as a kind of motto: “Keep on Thinking”! Take a look at our photo galleries to get a flavour of the conference in action! Their own creative response to this material was incredible – and at times equally provocative. Do check out the video gallery for a couple of examples. These are teenagers who’ve got something to say, and want someone to listen; they are also teenagers with lots of questions.
